I'm 18 years old and a magna cum laude graduate of Boston University Academy. I've had my admission and scholarship to the University of Chicago deferred, and I will spend the year working (so much for earlier plans of teaching English in Russia, etc.)...
If you want to know about me as a person rather than simply about my current situation, you'll need to read the journal. But you're in luck- there are some essays to that effect in there. At any rate, I suppose my overarching ambition is to become an heroic humanist of the old tradition, eschewing ideology and careerism for true, passionate involvement with ideas and the search for understanding---the true life of the mind. Time will tell whether I will hold to my ideals, or cave in to practical concerns and easy answers like (almost) everybody else. I am, at heart, a poet and romantic, and my goal is nothing short of understanding humanity and its relationship with the universe.
My best wishes to all of you who read this. Hopefully I'll steal enough time to write something better here later.
